"(The Toddy) is the ultimate coffee maker." -The Washington Post Now you can create a 'coffeehouse' coffee - served steaming hot or iced cold, and in the comfort of your home - for much less than expensive signature coffee drinks! As important as those fresh roasted beans are to your cup of coffee, it's what you do with them that counts the most. In 1964, as a chemical engineering graduate of Cornell, Todd Simpson developed and patented a cold brew system that, using regular coffee beans, creates a superior-tasting cup of steaming HOT coffee. And, with 67% LESS ACID than coffee made by conventional hot brew methods, it's easier on sensitive stomachs. The Toddy coffee maker extracts the coffee bean's true delicious flavor and eliminates much of the acidity, producing a bold, super-smooth coffee that can be served one cup at a time. The Toddy brewer is also ideal for making tea - served hot or over ice. What's in the box: Brewing Container with Handle, Glass Decanter with Lid, Reusable Filters (2), Rubber Stopper (1), Instructions & Recipe Guide.

The cold brewing system is really easy to use. It does take about 12 hours to brew, but just do it overnight and then you have enough coffee concentrate for about a week! It makes plenty of coffee and it is pretty good! The reduced acid in the coffee is noticeable as I am a heartburn sufferer. The coffee is smooth, but it does lack boldness that some coffee lovers will want. The brewing container is pretty cheap plastic, otherwise I would rate it a 5.

I read several of the reviews on this product, and one thing I noticed was people thought that the product was too expensive for what you get. After receiving the product I would concur. It's a cheap plastic device with a cheap plastic handle which is not even integrated into the product. It makes the handle too flimsy. You also get a glass carafe, two filters, and a rubber stopper.
I've now made three batches of coffee, trying different methods, and while I would say it does make good coffee, it also makes very expensive coffee. I tried leaving the batch sitting twice as long as recommended, and also using less coffee sitting longer, but it still requires a lot of coffee to make relatively few "cups" of coffee. I haven't exactly counted, but judging by how many days the supply lasts four me and my wife (about 4) I think it could make as few as 12 cups of coffee with 3/4 of a pound of coffee.
Also I would note that the filter life is apparently no where near ten batches. I've been very careful not to mix up the grounds during brewing, but after only three batches this brewing system either needs a new filter or a prescription for Flomax. It's possible that was a function of using less coffee somehow, because with water only it seems to have its original flow. I haven't changed the coarseness of the grind, so something is going on with the filter.
One place where there is some savings is that the coffee made does seem to have a rather strong caffeine dose when made according to the directions. I typically drink two cups of coffee in the morning, and with this I often drank only one because I was rather buzzed after that one cup. More so than after even two cups of regular coffee.
Given the expense of brewing I don't see this as a daily use product. At most you might use it before having guests over if you wanted to impress them with a very good cup of coffee, but that would require planning at least 12 hours in advance.

I think the Toddy Cold Brew System is the best way to make coffee. While it is not the most attractive looking tool in my kitchen - it works perfectly. I have bought coffee makers that have cost 10 times the money and don't make half the cup of coffee. I love that I only make coffee once every two weeks or so and every cup tastes as perfect as the first one.

We love our new Toddy! We have found that we most enjoy the concentrate when it's been brewed for 24 hours, and then we reuse the grounds for a different, bit more harsh concentrate. I prefer the first run and my husband prefers the second and it makes the coffee last twice as long which is nice. The Toddy is simple, affordable, and genius.

The system is cheap and produces an excellent product, but I have two main complaints:
1) why is there no lid to cover the plastic container?? are you supposed to just leave it in the fridge with no cover? i've been using plastic wrap to cover it up. the instructions do not at all address this. however, there is a useless separate handle for it. why the heck do you need this thing?? it's not like you are pouring the concentrate into anything.
2) the directions are poorly written. i'm an excellent reader/write and had to read these directions three times in order to understand the full process.
other than this, good marks for end-product and price.
