The frame covers a part of the sides and bottom of the beaker, making it safe for the tabletop without using a trivet or coaster. Simple to use, the French press is a proven method for brewing flavorful and balance coffee. Coffee is measured in 4 oz. cups, so our 8-cup press will brew 34 oz., serving three to four people. For best results, use coarse ground coffee. Just add the appropriate amount of ground coffee to the beaker (we recommend one 7 gram scoop per 4 oz. of water). Fill the beaker with hot water (just off of a boil). Leave about an inch from the top of the beaker. Give the coffee a stir with a plastic or wooden utensil to mix it completely with the water. Set the plunger and lid unit in place with the safety lid in the closed position. Allow the coffee to brew for 4-minutes and then press. Turn the safety lid to the open position, serve and enjoy. Everything about it works great except the screen gets kinks on the edges very easily. Thermos gladly replaced the screen once for me already. However a few days after installing the new one is has two kinks in it. It appears that the design of the top of the carafe causes the screen to be caught unless the press is removed by tilting it as it is removed.

I like that the whole thing, inside and out, including the filter is stainless steel (except the lid and the coating at the bottom of course). I broke my last bodum glass one while camping, so I'm thrilled I never have to worry about that again. It makes a great cup of coffee and keeps it hot enough for me for at least a couple of hours, and wow what a price for what you get! My only suggestion would be that they do not bevel the top; there is like an outward indentation inside at the top and if you fill it pretty full, you really have to keep the thing level or the grounds can get in there and then into your coffee cup when poured. This is only an issue for me because I get my hot water from a dispenser at work and have to hold it to do so. Maybe there is a purpose for it, but the bodums don't have this and they seem to work fine. For the price and quality though, I can hold the thing level. I bought this for about $25 new off Amazon, so much cheaper than any other stainless on the market that I could find, and it is really good quality. I highly recommend it.
