I'm not a coffee drinker so I don't know how well it grinds coffee beans. I use this as a spice grinder and it works well. It can be cleaned by wiping with a soft cloth or paper towel. It is hard to reach around the blade when cleaning. The retractable cord is handy too.

Since I have owned both the Proctor Silex and the Krups for years now, I will offer an honest comparison and review. I am here on Amazon shopping for a third Krups and saw the 4 stars given for the Proctor Silex and was shocked to see it rated so highly. Since it is a coffee grinder I will rate it as such and not as a flax seed or herbal grinder. The first problem I have with this machine is its very small payload capacity. Its only capable of grinding 2-3 heaping tablespoons of coffee and therefore I have to fill, grind and dump twice if I'm making a 4 to 6 cup pot of coffee. Also, if I want a fine grind, it simply can't do the job. The second issue is the plastic button that is depressed to actuate the motor is cheap and fell off pretty early on. The only redeeming qualities are, its cheap and the cord winds up internally for neat storage. This is great for the occasional user but if you grind daily or often, this wouldn't be convienent at all. However, if you only drink small amounts of weak coffee, then this unit will probably do the job for you. If the extra ten dollars won't break your budget then I would highly recommend the much better Krups model. I have one on my boat and one that I recently gave away to a family member and now want one to replace the Proctor Sitex at my current residence.

It was great for about 5 months then it fell apart and won't work at all now. Keep in mind I only used it for small quantities of coffee beans 1-2 times a week. Pathetic reliability.

This is a basic coffee grinder. You put in the coffee beans, grind, and turn it upside down to empty the grounds into a conveniently sized lid (which has a line around it that equals the exact amount of coffee I need. It also has a cord that can be manually retracted by spinning the grinder around it's base. I didn't give it 5 stars, because it does have a habit of allowing the grounds to stick to the side and fall onto the counter - not a major issue, easily cleaned with a quick wipe of a towel, but still worth a star.
