I bought this machine for my boyfriend as a birthday suprise. I worked in a coffee house for awhile and read all the reviews on this product. Everyone who gave it a good review is 100% correct. It is a great at home product for beginners. There are some problems:
1. The espresso does not come out as hot as industrial machines.
(solution: warm your cup)
2. The wand is awakard when steaming milk.
(solution: use a very small carafe)
3. Do not expect to get a decent crema (once again this is an at home machine not industrial)
(solution: use common sense when understanding the limitations of the machine)

I have the EC155 at work and the more expensive EC270 at home. The EC155 is definitely superior: It makes good espresso, it's fairly quiet, it's cheaper, and it's easy to use. More importantly, it doesn't have any of the flaws that the EC270 has (leaky water tank, noisy pump, awkward drip tray, etc.). The EC155 isn't as pretty as some other machines, and you can't fit tall cups under the filter, but overall I'm very happy with it and might end up replacing my EC270 with one.

I bought this machine over three years ago as my first espresso machine. It has been great. I use it almost every day. After about 3.5 years, it now leaks excessively out the steam wand. I took it apart about 4 months ago and cleaned inside and tightened things down. It helped for awhile, but now time for a new one.
I looked at getting a more expensive one, but the only additional feature I would like is a timer to turn on the burner before I wake up. It does take a good 15 minutes to get nice and hot.
Regarding the low steam wand, I just tip it a little when using my frothing pitcher. It's light, so no big deal. For single lattes, I just use a standard ceramic coffee cup for my frothing, then I don't have to use more milk than I need.
Note,I usually use ESE pods, not ground-and-tamped, so the tamper limitations don't bother me.
After comparison shopping again, I will buy another. Can't beat the price, I could buy a new one every 4 years and still be ahead of the fancy $400 machines with no operational added features.
Enjoy!

Bought this for my wife for Christmas. didn't know it, but I have had to make her the chocolate Mocha thing she liked so much at Starbucks. Evidentially she likes it better at home then bought from Starbucks now. We just buy the Starbucks espresso blend and have them grind it for the Espresso machine. Get a free cup of coffee with each $8 bag. The bag lasts forever. Saving money out the wazzu on this machine. I am an efficiency machine, so start to finish it takes about 10 minutes to get everything out make it and clean it up. Clean up is not horrible, but I would recommend that it be done immediately, not 5 or 10 minutes later. the grinds will get stuck in the strainer cup and the frothed milk with evaporate from the steamer arm. Then you got to scrub it rather than wipe it.
We had one problem once, and it wasn't the machine, but the grinds. We bought some other brand espresso beans and ground them in the Kroger store grinder on the espresso setting. It was so fine the machine couldn't get water through the grinds. It was giving a drop every 5 seconds. I had to mix the grinds with another bag and that helped a bit. Just make sure you don't get grinds to fine. You should have a shot of espresso in about 20 sec. If too fast or slow you did something wrong.

I used to be a barista at a coffee shop, so coming from that, this machine has a lot of problems. I'll list them here:
- Grabbing the top is the only sensible way to get enough force to either tamp the grounds using the built-in top or lock the cup in place, but the top is ridiculously hot, so I occasionally get minor burns trying to avoid it and get the right amount of pressure
- The steam wand leaves a lot to be desired. I have to put two cappuccinos-worth of milk in my regular-sized frothing pitcher so that the wand reaches the top of the milk
- Steam wand is hard to clean. Getting anything up inside the black cover on the tip is difficult. Once, it even clogged and the next time I turned on the wand, nothing came out, then, all of a sudden, there was an explosion of steam. Dangerous!
- Not a lot of pressure through the ground. It takes forever to get a double-shot.
All that being said, I'm quite happy with my purchase. I bought, as recommended by other reviews,RSVP Terry's Tamper so I don't have to use the built-in. I don't use the machine as often as I thought due to how time-consuming it can be, but it's still a nice treat on weekends. Knowing everything I dislike about this machine, I still would have bought it because you can't beat the price.
