"Toddy Coffee is the only coffee" 2010-08-13
By Crystal Starr Light (Here)
I thank Seattle's Best every day for getting me hooked on cold-brewed coffee. They also were the ones to sell me a Toddy cold-brewed coffee system, and totally change my view of coffee ever since.

The filters last quite a long time (I've used the same filter since I got the system over a year ago, which means about a dozen or more uses), but I got to the point where I really needed to get some more. Now that I've changed the filter, my coffee is shockingly even better: fresher, more delicious, and just plain better! I can't imagine drinking coffee that hasn't been cold-brewed, and the Toddy system has been just what I need: a simple to use system that makes great coffee.

Thank you Toddy! Thank you Seattle's Best!

I have a toddy maker but cannot find filters to fit properly. I need filters with a 3 inch diameter and can only find 2 1/2 inch filters. Would someone measure their filters and let me know what size these filters are. There is no size description for this product.

Thanks.

These are much thicker and larger than the filter that comes in the Ronco Coffetime Brew System, but with some careful trimming they fit nicely.

"Last Longer Than They Say" 2009-11-27
By Jamie J. Bourgeois (Boston, MA United States)
The Toddy instruction booklet that come with the brewing system says that their filters last through 12 pots...

I have found that this filters last much longer than that if certain care is taken: first, make sure you place the filter so that the brewed coffee is always flowing through the filter in the same direction; secondly, rinse the filter thoroughly after each use and let dry until barely damp. Lastly, store in a clean plastic bag in the fridge in between uses.

Doing the above has allowed these filters to be used for at least 4 months, or about 16-18 pots, before needing a replacement. Only once did a filter not last as long as the others, but mainly because my husband didn't rinse it properly, nor let it dry enough, before placing it in an old plastic bag- so it became quite moldy.

I've not noticed any difference in the taste of the coffee when using the filters longer than the manufacturer recommends, and think you can't beat the price per use when extending the life of the item!

Great coffee maker wish it had a bigger grinder. With grinder full I can only use 6cups of water for a decent pot of joe.

This is one great coffee maker. It is easy to clean after each use, all you have to do is rinse out the grinder and let it dry. I would buy another one tomorrow if this one stopped working.

 "Incredible customer service" 2010-09-21
By Barbara J. Uggen-davis (Indianapolis, IN)
In 11 years of marriage, my husband and I have gone through 3 grind-and-brew coffee makers, this is our 4th or rather 5th. Our first was a Cuisinart wedding gift. My mother broke the lid while visiting and then the carafe a week later. Cuisinart replaced both, but since we had difficulty putting the new lid on, my mother bought us a replacement Melita grind and brew coffee maker out of guilt. The Melita didn't survive the cross country move and was replaced by a Wal-Mart special Mr. Coffee. Mr. Coffee still grinds and brews these days, but after 3 years, the buttons no longer work to set the clock and auto-start. To say the least, we put our coffee makers through a lot - daily use and sometimes 2 pots on weekends.

I was hoping to replace the Mr. Coffee with something made in the USA, but since that simply wasn't possible, I went looking around town to see what I could find. I purchased the floor model DG300 model coffee maker from Big Lots for $45 - no returns allowed. Everything looked in working order. I wouldn't have risked it buying a floor model, but the past experience with Cuisinart made me confident. Sure enough, the floor model I brought home didn't work. The grinder didn't grind. It would brew, the clock worked, the timer worked, but the grinder just didn't do a thing.

That first morning, I called Cuisinart Customer Service twice. First, I needed help registering the product because I didn't have the product box to get the right numbers and I didn't have a manual. Downloaded the manual, but couldn't get the grinder to work. Called customer service again while firing up the old coffee pot to get some caffeine into our Saturday morning quick. Turns out the DG300 was discontinued and based on the manufacture date was already out of warranty by the time I purchased it. First, they suggested returning it to the store. When I explained that it was a floor model purchased the day before and it was the last one they had, the agent put me on hold. She came back after a brief consultation with a supervisor. The warranty was expired, but since I'd just purchased it, Cuisinart honored the full product warranty! Second, normal warranty service requires you to pay shipping to AND from Cuisinart. Because I had just purchased the item, they waived the shipping to Cuisinart and sent the new one right out at no cost. Third, because it was a discontinued model, Cuisinart upgraded my purchase to the next comparable model. That model was out of stock, so they upgraded my purchase to the DGB-650BC.

I received the replacement this week and I absolutely love it! This is now my 4th style of grind and brew coffee maker. This one is definitely the easiest to clean. I also like the charcoal water filter as we have terrible water quality. The carafe doesn't drip when it pours like the Mr Coffee model. The only thing I liked about the Melita over all the others is the filter basket was the grinding basket, so fewer things to clean. The drawback was that you couldn't change the filter basket when it got nasty unless you wanted to order a new grinder/filter from Melita.

Most important to me, however, is the customer service experience. Cuisinart has excellent, helpful customer service reps and they stand behind their products. Lately, most companies I've dealt with have been terrible, but Cuisinart continues to uphold high customer care standards and they go beyond to make things right.

 "I love my coffee pot :)" 2010-09-20
By Kacey
My cheap-'ol coffee pot that I've been using for the last year and a half was recalled- so I took it back. Perfect excuse for a brand new coffee pot. My last one was a "General Electric®-branded 12-cup digital coffee makers"- so the quality and taste is a huge improvement. This thing is a beast, and so far I love it! I really wanted the Cuisinart DTC-975BKN, but there was NO way I was going to wait close to a week for process/shipping, or spend 50$ extra for next day delivery. $150 for a coffee pot marked at $100? No thanks. My husband spotted this one, and liked it. He wanted me to have a thermal one- knowing that I chase after my 2 year old all day and my 6 month old is a constant distraction... it takes a while to get back to my coffee, and I didn't want cooked coffee any more. It has the grinder, which is a ++ because sometimes I like to buy the beans (I switch around).

1) The coffee isn't weak, if you do the one scoop per cup it works perfect. Use the scoop that comes with the coffee pot. I realized my scoop is about 1 1/2 scoops of the measuring spoon it came with. 10 scoops of coffee fits just fine in the coffee filter, 10-11 scoops of beans fits just fine in the grinder. I could probably get more, but I can't imagine why when the coffee comes out so good with just 11 scoops of whole beans.

2) I've never once had my coffee pot spill all over the counter and floor. No flooding, no backing up... I don't get how people could possibly have this problem. Are you guys screwing the cap on? Is it on right? There is a LOCK position on the top of the carafe. Are you going over the 10 line on the water indicator? The carafe only holds enough liquid to reach that 10 line. You go over that, it WILL over flow.

3) My coffee stays hot all morning and through most of the afternoon. It brews at 6am, by 12pm it's still hot enough to drink nicely, by 3 it's getting a bit room temperature...that's plenty of time.

4) The program works just fine. No light on the lcd screen. I don't really care. I know what time it is when I'm up grabbing my coffee, it's too darn early. It's why I'm dragging myself to my coffee pot. :P If I'm woken up before I have the pot set to brew (my kids like to make sure I'm up at unbelievable hours ;)) then I just go press the on button.

5) I switch between whole beans and grounds- I set both up before I go to sleep every night. If I'm using the grounds, I press the "grind off" when I click the program on. If not, then I leave the grind to go.

6) The grinder being loud? It's a grinder... common people. You bought a GRIND and brew, what did you expect? It sounds about the same as an electric pencil sharpener. It sounds like a grinder to me. Seriously, it's not that loud. My other grinder is louder. I really didn't expect much quiet when buying this. On the topic of the machine being loud, the 5 beeps are not loud either. I have to be in the kitchen to hear it.

7) The carafe pouring slow... it's a thermal, it can't have a wide opening or air would get inside, rendering the thermal part of the carafe pointless. If you want a really fast flow- go buy a coffee pot with a glass carafe. If you don't want cold, cooked coffee that you'll have to stick in the microwave for a minute to make drinkable after an hour from brewing, then take the extra 5-10 seconds to pour your coffee. I posted a picture of how fast the flow is.

Now the major complaint of people- clean up... come on. Really? I spent 125$ at the store for this thing, and as ANY kitchen appliance you buy, you have to make sure it's cleaned. You keep it clean, it makes good coffee for you. You don't buy a blender expecting to be able to use it and use it and use it without cleaning it each time- do you? You even have to clean the external coffee grinders, or you get build up from your beans. Yes, you have to clean it- big deal! I have 2 kids, 2 and under. It takes all of a minute to rinse out the filter, filter basket, filter lid, and coffee grinder- and to run some water over the water filter. The filter basket I push down the bottom part to let water run out of the coffee dispenser to clean out any build up right there. After I rinse them out I set them in the drainer to dry. When I finish my coffee I rinse out the carafe and allow water to run through the lid and set those out to dry in the drainer too. NOT a long job. If I want more coffee then it takes another minute to run some paper towel or a hand towel over the important parts (the grinder if I'm using whole beans, the filter lid and the actual filter) and make my coffee. No hurt. I then rinse them all back out when I get around to it. I do some soap and water on the parts every other day, just a quick rinse outside of that. I have not encountered a problem using this method. The cleaning is really not a problem unless you were hoping not to have to clean at all. If that's the case, you would be better off with a 30 dollar coffee pot, because the taste quality on any coffee pot (regardless of how much you pay for it) will be about the same if you don't clean it to get the old coffee out.

My only complains would be that it can be a bit tricky to read the water level if you don't have a good idea of how much goes into it (in my case, I pour 3 500mL purified water bottles into it, and it reaches 10cups perfectly) and it's hard to determine how much coffee is left in the carafe because the weight of the carafe itself. They are things that I won't be crying over, though. This coffee pot is amazing.

If anyone would like pictures taken of certain parts of the machine, let me know. As long as it doesn't mean taking my machine apart to get them then I'll be more then happy to give you an idea of what part of the machine looks like or how it works.

 "Can't beat the taste!" 2010-09-22
By Lysan
None of the coffee-makers of today can beat the taste of a good perculator from the past. Presto was always one of the best and I'm glad I decided to finally get it after trying parctically all those drip coffe makers on the market. Coffe tastes great again, I really enjoy my 2 cups in the morning. Reason I only gave it 4 stars - the cord is way, way too short! Otherwise, no complaints about this beautiful perculator. Looks great on the counter, takes up less space. Can anyone tell me where to get a longer cord.....?

 "Presto coffeemaker is great" 2010-09-11
By Dave G
We purchase this coffeemaker for the purpose of bringing it to the hotel's on vacation or to take it camping in our RV camper, We go to Laughlin alot for boating and always take take a few friends, So we were looking for this type of coffeemaker to share when we have a few rooms next to each other in the same hotel. The coffe was excellent tasting, the onling thing is we could not get the hang of, is using filters so we end up using without the use of filters and it work perfect, I read about the filters from other owners of this coffeemaker and they said it was better tasting but I just couldnt make it work and need to read up more on how to use with filters, anyway it work perfect the way it was intended to work without filters. What I like about the Presto coffeemaker, it is easy to use easy to clean and for 12 cups it is fast and smells good. Those cheap coffeemakers they have in the hotels rooms are nasty and you never know were they have been,So this is why we did a search on best coffeemakers and we truly found it, the construction of the presto is good and sturdy and could take the banging of travel and packing to the hotel, I read on other reviews about the cord having problems but the cord I got with mine is sturdy and just fine. We already have our Keurig coffeemaker for home and the presto is not a replacement for home, The Keurig has no cleanup and can dispense 1 cup at a time and at any time we love this for home but to big for the hotel and camping purposes. So having the presto 12 cup is the perfect solution for our needs. I think if we had to use it for home it would be for parties and when we have a lot a guest, Because or Keurig would be to costly to use with our quest especially the cost of the special K cups it requires and I think our guest would enjoy Perculated coffee taste better anyway. The smell of good coffee in the morning is great when your camping or hotel vacation, and using the presto makes the coffee taste as good as it smells. You can use this coffeemaker from 2 to 4 cups But for home when we are on a rush to work and dont want to leave you coffeemaker dirty untl you get home The Keurig is the coffemaker of choice for everyday home use, But if you have time to perculate or your in need of one for travel or the purposes we have ,this is the way to go using the Presto.

 "Milk Frothing Pitcher" 2010-08-21
By SinkFaze (Miami, FL)
This is actually very well made product. I just thought it was bigger. It can only heat up enough milk for one person. I needed it for at least two. And you can't stick your hand in it to clean the inside because of the tapered end. I realize this is by design but just need it a bit wider. Maybe if it were larger (for two) it can be wider.

Usually I tried sticking various size and shape stoneware mugs under the wand to froth... but this makes it a touch more consistent as well as having a thin edge to clamp on a thermometer. Have to admit, much tastier with better temperature control, as I don't scald the milk.

 "Well made, perfect size" 2010-04-07
By John C. Gee (St Louis, MO)
This looks exactly like the ones you see at

coffee shops. I'm glad I got the 20 oz size

instead of the 12 oz one, because when you

froth your milk, the froth for a normal size

coffee drink will almost fill this pitcher.

It's stainless steel, and well constructed.

It looks like it will last a lifetime!

Being metal, the pitcher will get quite

hot during the frothing. The handle remains

comfortably cool during the frothing.

I recommend buying a frothing thermometer

with this as well, so that you know when

the milk/froth gets to proper serving

temperature.
